Raaji Dessena Biography
Born in Switzerland now living there and 4 months a year in Costa
Rica.
Having been interested in healing from a young age I explored art
and dance as well as the healing effects of creativity and expression
on our body and spirit. I also sing and play the guitar, exploring
and sharing the healing qualities of sound in singing circles.
From 1990 I started studying bodywork and have since become certified
in various modes of healing including shiatsu, hawaiian healing
massage, aquabalancing, dorntechnique, trauma healing (from P. Levine),
and craniosacral balancing. I’m also a certified reiki master,
modern dance and gymnastics teacher and have studied yoga, meditation
and tantra.
From all these techniques ‘Essence Bodywork’ has been
created. I now share and teach Essence Bodywork in Switzerland and
Costa Rica.
‘Somatic Experiencing’ or ‘Trauma
Healing ’ (Peter Levine)
“Trauma is held in the nervous
system (N.S). Through overwhelming experiences the N.S. loses
it’s strength and flexibility. Somatic experiencing helps
to regain it’s ressiliance and strength .“
Dr . Peter Levine
Trauma happens when an event is ‘overwhelming’, that
means when something happens too fast, too often or too soon .
During such an overwhelming experience the N.S. is being over-activated.
If it can’t discharge this energy it stays held as tension
in the nervoussystem and the lifeforce remains fixed on those past
events that created the trauma and might recreate this over-activation
again and again. This can lead to stress-reaction and can cause
(even after years) many psychological and physical symptoms.
The healing of trauma is a natural process that is being initiated
through becoming aware of our body, thus allowing the over-activation
to find a way to discharge in a gentle way, step by step.
With somatic experiencing, trauma can successfully be healed even
if one doesn’t have memories about the event.
Through the finding and investigating of resources in the body
and the lifeforce the sensations and patterns caused by the trauma
can be transformed , and new possibilities and strength for life
can grow . Resources are anything that gives someone a sense of
comfort and stability such as a place in the body or an experience
or activity that feels good.
Somatic experiencing is a very gentle and respectful technique
that supports everyone individually in integrating his or her history
into the present life .“
